A Season Interrupted

The 2020 Le Tournoi season was unlike any other, as the COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented disruption to the golfing calendar.

The original national lockdown forced the cancellation of the April, May and June events, with a further lockdown in November resulting in the loss of another event. Despite these interruptions, the Society managed to complete a shortened season, with members still able to compete for the Division One and Division Two titles.

The decision was made to retain the requirement of five qualifying events for the league standings, despite the reduced calendar.

The disruption also meant that the Order of Merit was not contested in 2020, although two of the Society's Major championships went ahead, with their results remaining part of the historical record.

The season also saw an unusual outcome in Division One, with Lee Bowyer and Jarod Gowland-Smith retaining their Division One status despite failing to complete the required five qualifying events, which under normal circumstances would have resulted in relegation.

Although 2020 will be remembered more for the events that could not take place than those that did, it remains an important chapter in Le Tournoi's history, demonstrating the Society's determination to keep the competition alive during an extraordinary year.
