2008 Season

The Growing Pains of Success

2008 was another successful year for Le Tournoi, with all four Majors taking place and, importantly, a complete record of the results surviving for future generations to enjoy.

The Falcon continued to grow in popularity, attracting enough golfers to introduce a two-division league structure for the first time. Division One became the primary league, with Division Two providing a separate competition. Both divisions crowned their own champions, although Division One retained the higher standing, equivalent to the single-division league of previous years.

As the two societies continued to develop, an interesting challenge was beginning to emerge. During the months when Le Tournoi held its Majors, the Falcon was potentially losing players to those events, while Le Tournoi was also losing golfers to the Falcon's more affordable league competitions. It was becoming apparent that the two formats, despite their individual success, were beginning to compete for the same golfers.

At the time, this was simply something we observed rather than acted upon.

Nevertheless, 2008 was another enjoyable and successful season, with both societies continuing to attract golfers and build on the traditions established in previous years.
